About Watermark PDF

A watermark is the simplest form of document protection. It does not encrypt the file or prevent copying, but it makes the status or sensitivity of a document unambiguously visible on every page — which is often enough to discourage casual redistribution and to stop a draft being mistaken for the final version.

Convertora's watermark tool stamps a custom line of text diagonally across the center of every page. You control the wording, the font size, the opacity, and the rotation angle; the text is drawn in a neutral gray that reads clearly over both light and dark page content. Because the watermark is written into the page content itself — not added as a removable annotation layer — it can't be switched off in a PDF viewer.

The whole operation runs in your browser. For documents where a watermark matters (unreleased reports, privileged drafts), that's not a small detail: the file is never uploaded anywhere.

How to use it

  1. 1Upload the PDF you want to watermark (up to 100 MB).
  2. 2Type the watermark text. The field starts with 'CONFIDENTIAL', but anything works — 'DRAFT', a recipient name, a date.
  3. 3Adjust the three sliders: font size (10–120, default 50), opacity (5–100%, default 15%), and rotation (-90° to 90°, default -45°, the classic corner-to-corner diagonal).
  4. 4Click the watermark button. The text is drawn centered on every page, accounting for the rotation so it pivots around the page's midpoint.
  5. 5Download the result, saved with a -watermarked suffix.

Common use cases

  • Marking a draft contract as DRAFT so it isn't mistaken for the executed version.
  • Stamping CONFIDENTIAL on documents before sharing them outside the team.
  • Adding the recipient's name to a sensitive report — if it leaks, the source is traceable.
  • Labelling sample chapters or preview copies of paid material.

Tips

  • Keep the text short. A long sentence at font size 50 will run past the page edges on A4 — 'CONFIDENTIAL' or 'DRAFT — DO NOT CITE' is about the practical limit.
  • Set rotation to 0° for a horizontal banner across the page middle; ±45° reads as the traditional diagonal.

100% private — runs in your browser

Convertora processes everything on your device using JavaScript and WebAssembly. Files never leave your browser, are never uploaded to a server, and are never seen by us or anyone else. The moment you close the tab, the data is gone — there is no temporary cloud copy, no log entry, no retained backup.

Because the work happens locally, processing speed depends on your device — but there are no rate limits, no daily caps, and no file size restrictions beyond what your browser can handle in memory. No signup, no account, no payment. The tool works the same in incognito mode, on a corporate network, or after the page has loaded once, even with the network disconnected.
